Water infrastructure projects in Portugal
Overview
Various water and sanitation infrastructure projects have been announced across Portugal to improve service reliability and environmental standards.
In Ourém, Tejo Ambiente received approval for a €5.2 million remodeling project at the Alto Nabão Wastewater Treatment Plant. Funded largely by the Cohesion Fund, the modernization aims to improve biological treatment and monitoring to reduce pressure on the Nabão River. Additionally, the organization launched a preventive pest control campaign across sewage networks in Ourém, Tomar, Vila Nova da Barquinha, and Ferreira do Zêzere.
Other regional investments include a €6.3 million project by the Associação de Beneficiários do Mira to rehabilitate a 38-kilometer canal, which supports irrigation and public supply for 12,000 hectares. In Olhão, Ambiolhão is implementing a €7.65 million program to renew water supply and sanitation networks in Olhão, Quelfes, and Armona Island, with a portion of the funding sourced from the Recovery and Resilience Plan.
