Water infrastructure projects launched in Santa Bárbara and Lumaco

New water infrastructure projects have been inaugurated in the Biobío and Araucanía regions of Chile to combat water scarcity and improve sanitation.

In the rural sector of Agua Santa, located in the commune of Santa Bárbara, a new potable water distribution network has been implemented through the ‘Desafío Agua para Chile’ program. This initiative, a partnership between CMPC and the Desafío Levantemos Chile foundation, provides 90 residents with continuous access to water. The project includes a deep well, high-capacity storage tanks, an automatic chlorination system, and over 6.4 kilometers of piping connected to 28 homes.

In Lumaco, Aguas Araucanía has operationalized a new semi-buried potable water tank with a 100,000-liter capacity. The $730 million CLP investment includes a lifting plant to ensure supply for approximately 630 families. The project aims to strengthen water security and address historical scarcity issues exacerbated by climate change.
