Water management developments in Costa Rica and Spain
In Costa Rica, the Regulatory Authority of Public Services (ARESEP) has recognized 42 community water administrator associations (ASADAS) in the Northern Zone for their commitment to water quality. The distinction, known as the Regulatory Quality Seals, was awarded by ARESEP’s Water Superintendency to honor the management of rural water systems. San Carlos received the highest concentration of awards with 30 recognized organizations, including those from Quesada, Aguas Zarcas, Florencia, and La Fortuna. Other recognized associations are located in Sarapiquí, Río Cuarto, Los Chiles, and San Ramón.
In Spain, the Spanish Urban Water Association (DAQUAS) and the Spanish Association of Desalination and Reuse (AEDyR) have signed a two-year collaboration agreement. The partnership aims to promote training, research, technological innovation, and regulatory development within the water sector. The agreement focuses on five key areas to strengthen the industry's response to water scarcity, climate change, infrastructure modernization, and the increasing demand for high-quality water through desalination and reuse technologies.
