Water scarcity concerns rise in Haute Vallée de la Creuse
Water resources in the Haute Vallée de la Creuse region of France have reached critical levels due to persistent drought. The SIAEP de la Haute Vallée de la Creuse has issued a warning, noting that water levels are particularly low in the communes of Clairavaux, Croze, and Felletin. While previous conservation efforts helped reduce consumption during the summer, the lack of significant rainfall in the coming weeks has made the situation precarious.
Simultaneously, environmental concerns are rising regarding industrial water demands. France Nature Environnement Occitanie Pyrénées has raised questions about the SIAT industrial site's water requirements. The organization notes that the site's projected needs could rival the total potable water consumption of neighboring towns like Brassac and Le Bez. While SIAT plans to rely heavily on rainwater collection and treated effluents, critics argue that current studies may not sufficiently account for increasingly frequent and prolonged drought periods.
