Indonesia faces widespread water crisis and extreme weather

Multiple regions across Indonesia are grappling with severe water shortages and extreme weather events. In Trenggalek, East Java, a prolonged drought has left 14 sub-districts and 67 villages in crisis, affecting over 43,000 people. Local volunteers and organizations, including the Alumni Family of Jember University (KAUJE), have begun distributing thousands of liters of clean water to residents facing dried-up wells.

Similar water scarcity is being addressed in other provinces. In Tangerang, the local government is deploying water tankers to reach nine points in the Pinang district. In Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta, organizations are collaborating with disaster management agencies to provide aid to drought-stricken villages. Meanwhile, in Tegal, Central Java, local political groups have distributed water to residents suffering from a three-month dry spell, and in the Karimunjawa islands, logistics and water aid have been provided to remote island communities.

In a separate weather-related incident, heavy rain and strong winds in West Bandung caused significant damage to 522 homes across several villages in the Padalarang district, impacting 517 families. Local authorities have issued warnings for continued extreme weather as the rainy season begins.
