Water scarcity relief efforts launched in Sumenep and Kendal
Regional authorities and charitable organizations in Indonesia are implementing various measures to address water scarcity and drought impacts in several districts.
In Sumenep, East Java, Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa has distributed clean water aid to residents in Batuputih, including water tanks, jerry cans, and reservoirs. To provide a long-term solution to the severe drought affecting 70 villages and over 271,000 people, the provincial government is conducting technical feasibility studies for the construction of permanent borehole wells planned for 2027.
In Kendal, Central Java, the Yayasan Pundi Amal Peduli Kasih (YPP) SCTV, in collaboration with the Kendal Regency Government, has inaugurated a new borehole well in Sidokumpul Village. The facility aims to assist residents of Dusun Kalikunal, who previously had to navigate steep terrain to access water, thereby improving local sanitation, health, and quality of life.
