Water security varies across Indonesia as Lamongan maintains reserves while Bandar Lampung faces crisis
Indonesia is facing varying levels of water security across different regions. In Lamongan, the local government reports that water availability remains sufficient for agriculture during the 2026 dry season. Data from the Department of Water Resources and Construction indicates that approximately 35.9 million cubic meters of water remain in the region's 44 reservoirs and swamps. This supply is intended to support irrigation for over 19,000 hectares of rice crops and 5,314 hectares of secondary crops. Local officials are focusing on infrastructure revitalization and drought mitigation to ensure long-term food security.
In contrast, Bandar Lampung is experiencing a clean water crisis. At least five districts, including Sukabumi and Panjang, are struggling with shortages. The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) estimates the daily clean water requirement for affected residents at approximately 100,000 liters. Experts and environmental groups, such as Walhi Lampung, suggest the crisis is exacerbated by poor spatial management and environmental degradation, noting that significant damage to local hills due to mining and urban development has contributed to the drying of residential wells.
