Domašov water shortage ends as tankers refill empty reservoir
A prolonged drought and high water consumption emptied the reservoir that supplies the municipalities of Domašov, Rudka and Říčky in the Brno region. The voluntary association Dobrovolný svazek obcí Domašovsko had issued a water‑saving appeal at the end of July, but consumption rose by about 60‑80 m³ per day, putting roughly 1,400 residents at risk of losing supply.
Tanker trucks and cisterns were deployed to deliver drinking water to the three villages. The first tank‑load added 14 000 L to the depleted tank, and additional tankers from Jihlava assisted in the following days. Firefighters helped with the distribution. By early August the water‑utility restored flow, and officials urged continued conservation, warning that the well serving the area, first built in 1959, had run dry for the first time in its history.
The situation illustrates the impact of the current heat wave on local water infrastructure and the need for coordinated emergency measures and public‑water‑saving behaviour.
