Water Supply Disruption Leaves About 40,000 Puerto Rico Residents Without Service

The Puerto Rico Water Authority (AAA) reported that two simultaneous failures have cut potable water to roughly 40,000 customers in the northern part of the island. The first failure occurred at the Enrique Ortega “La Plata” filtration plant, where electrical problems forced two pumps offline, reducing pressure in Bayamón, Guaynabo, Naranjito, Comerío and rural San Juan. One pump has been restored, while crews work on the second. A second outage affected the Finca Rosso 1 pump station in Guaynabo, which was already under reconstruction after a 2025 incident. The Super‑aqueduct also experienced reduced output, prompting inspections and possible service interruptions for Toa Baja, Dorado, San Juan, Carolina and Loíza. AAA has activated all available operational resources to restore normal service as quickly as possible.
