Brazilian cities schedule water supply interruptions for maintenance

In Manaus, the Ponta do Ismael water production complex will undergo preventive maintenance on 5 August, shutting both treatment stations from 06:00 to 18:00. The outage will affect neighborhoods in the North, South, Centre‑South, West, Centre‑West and part of the East zones, with water restored gradually from the evening and full normalization expected by 07 August. Hospitals, health units and schools will receive water from tankers.

Porto Alegre’s Department of Water and Sewage (Dmae) has planned three maintenance actions between 3 and 5 August. On 3 August a 200 mm valve replacement at the Ascensão reservoir may cut supply to the Glória neighbourhood. On 4 August cuts on Avenida Souza Melo could leave the whole Sarandi district without water. On 5 August a fuse replacement at the Jardim Ipê pumping station may affect Jardim Carvalho, Boa Vista and the Jardim Ipê and Colina do Prado communities. Service is expected to resume gradually each night, and water quality may temporarily change in colour or taste.

In Caxias do Sul, municipal crews will continue work on the Sinimbu street drainage gallery over the weekend to prevent traffic disruption when schools reopen. The project involves extensive excavations and repairs to a storm‑water conduit.

Brusque (Santa Catarina) carried out preventive underground works on three streets—Mathias Moritz, Nicolau Lauritzen and Rio Branco—to reinforce pipelines and sewage connections ahead of expected heavy rains linked to the El Niño phenomenon.

In the Região dos Lagos, the water‑treatment plant at Juturnaíba will be serviced, potentially reducing supply to Iguaba Grande, São Pedro da Aldeia, Arraial do Cabo, Cabo Frio and Armação dos Búzios. Residents are advised to keep inlet valves open and conserve water; essential services will be served by tankers, and full restoration may take up to 48 hours.
