Water supply shortages affect regions in Soria and Toledo

Water supply challenges are affecting multiple regions in Spain due to declining aquifer levels and infrastructure issues. In Soria, the Provincial Council has increased water distribution via tanker trucks to combat quality problems and falling water tables. So far in 2026, the institution has distributed 3,933,000 liters, with August accounting for approximately 44% of that total. Key areas receiving assistance include Cabrejas del Pinar and Gómara.

In Toledo, six municipalities—San Bartolomé de las Abiertas, Santa Ana de Pusa, San Martín de Pusa, Villarejo de Montalbán, Retamoso de la Jara, and Espinoso del Rey—have been without potable water since August 20. The shortage is caused by falling reservoir levels in the Mancomunidad del Pusa area and high iron concentrations in the existing supply. While regional authorities have announced funds to seek alternative sources, such as groundwater drilling, residents continue to rely on bottled water as permanent infrastructure solutions remain pending.
