Waymo, Tesla, and Uber receive robotaxi permits in Nevada

The Nevada Transportation Authority has approved commercial robotaxi permits for Tesla, Uber, and Waymo in Clark County, allowing for the deployment of up to 8,000 autonomous vehicles over the next year. Tesla's permit covers up to 5,000 vehicles, while Waymo and Uber are each authorized for 1,000. Uber will operate through partnerships with Motional and Zoox.

Simultaneously, Waymo has expanded its commercial operations in the United States with the launch of its new Ojai robotaxi model. Available to the general public in Los Angeles, Phoenix, and San Francisco, the Ojai is a purpose-built electric minivan manufactured by Zeekr. The vehicle features Waymo's sixth-generation autonomous driving system and integrates Google Gemini AI to enhance passenger interaction.

On an international level, Waymo is advancing its presence in Japan. The company is conducting autonomous driving tests in Tokyo in collaboration with Nippon Kotsu and the GO taxi application to adapt its technology to local driving conditions, such as left-hand traffic and narrow streets.
