Waymo introduces Ojai robotaxi and partners with GO Inc. in Japan

Waymo is introducing a new robotaxi vehicle called the ‘Ojai,’ a battery-electric minivan based on a Zeekr model. Designed to function as a ‘mobile living room,’ the vehicle features a low floor, a flat interior, and a B-pillarless design to facilitate easy entry and exit for passengers. The interior is equipped with three large LED screens allowing users to control climate and music.

In Japan, Waymo is collaborating with GO Inc. and Nihon Kotsu to prepare for technical verification of autonomous driving technology in Tokyo. This move follows GO Inc.’s recent listing on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Growth Market in June 2026.

Financial analysis of the taxi industry shows a distinction between platform providers and traditional operators. GO Inc., acting as a platformer, reported a high operating profit margin of 17.0% for the fiscal year ending May 2026, contrasting with traditional taxi companies like Daiichi Kotsu Sangyo, which reported a 3.2% operating margin. GO’s business model focuses on mediating between users and taxi companies, resulting in a balance sheet characterized by high cash reserves rather than heavy physical assets like vehicles.
