Weather alerts: Heat in Hong Kong and Typhoon Shuliki approaching Taiwan
Weather forecasts for Hong Kong and Taiwan indicate varying conditions, including heat and approaching tropical activity. In Hong Kong, the Observatory predicts hot daytime temperatures with urban highs reaching approximately 32 degrees Celsius. While some showers are expected due to high-altitude disturbances and a northeast monsoon affecting the Guangdong coast, the region is expected to remain mostly sunny and hot in the coming days. A tropical cyclone is also expected to develop in the Northwest Pacific east of the Philippines, with its path remaining uncertain.
In Taiwan, the Central Weather Administration reports cloudy to sunny weather with scattered showers in mountainous and coastal areas. Temperatures in the western half of the island are expected to reach between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Typhoon Shuliki (the 25th light typhoon) is moving northwest-west. Experts describe it as a ‘small but powerful’ autumn typhoon that is expected to intensify due to high sea temperatures and low vertical wind shear. While it currently has no immediate impact on Taiwan, its path is expected to shift northward, making this weekend a critical period for monitoring its movement.
