Balkan region expects heavy rain and snow as cyclone approaches
A significant weather shift is forecasted across the Balkan Peninsula, characterized by a transition to colder temperatures and increased precipitation. Meteorologists predict that a cyclone forming over Sicily and moving across the Ionian Sea toward Greece could impact the region's eastern and central parts, placing the area in its cold sector.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, heavy rainfall is expected, particularly in central and northwestern regions, with amounts potentially reaching 30 to 60 liters per square meter. Mountainous areas may see snow accumulation of 25 to 50 centimeters, with the snow line dropping to approximately 800 meters. Winter equipment becomes mandatory for drivers in Bosnia and Herzegovina starting November 1.
Other affected areas include Montenegro, Serbia, and eastern Croatia, where significant precipitation and snow are anticipated. In Bulgaria, cloudy skies and rain are expected, primarily in western and central regions, with snow possible in mountains above 1,500 to 1,800 meters. Coastal areas in Bulgaria and Croatia may experience moderate to strong winds, with bura gusts in Zadar County potentially reaching 65 to 85 km/h.
