Spain and Ecuador face extreme weather as heatwaves and El Niño bring storms FAST-MOVING
Spain is experiencing high temperatures and stable weather conditions, with some areas seeing values 5 to 10 degrees above the seasonal average. AEMET has issued a 'very high' fire risk warning for the northern, eastern, and southern parts of the peninsula. In the Canary Islands, health authorities have issued red-level alerts for high temperatures in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Las Palmas, and Lanzarote, while a pre-alert for calima has been declared across the archipelago.
In South America, Ecuador is facing increased precipitation and storms due to the El Niño phenomenon, with INAMHI predicting more intense rainfall through the end of the year. Costa Rica is also expecting unstable conditions, including thunderstorms and heavy rain, particularly in the Pacific region. Meanwhile, southern Baja California Sur is forecasting strong storms and heavy rains accompanied by lightning and wind gusts up to 50 km/h.
