A pre-alert for calima has also been declared for Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, where high concentrations of airborne dust pose risks to those with respiratory issues.

The high temperatures have increased the risk of wildfires, which is currently rated as ‘very high’ in the north, east, and south of the peninsula. Specifically in La Palma, authorities have closed trails and prohibited fires due to these elevated wildfire risks. A weather shift is anticipated mid-week, as a meteorological trough is forecasted to bring a progressive decline in temperatures and increased instability, potentially bringing rainfall to the Cantabrian coast and the Pyrenees.
