Weather impacts soybean planting in Paraguay and corn harvests in Europe
Agricultural sectors in Paraguay and Spain are experiencing contrasting conditions due to weather patterns. In Paraguay, persistent heavy rains are complicating the start of the 2026-2027 soybean campaign. While germination has been successful, excessive soil moisture and low sunlight are preventing necessary field maintenance and causing some plants to yellow. Producers also face logistical challenges due to damaged rural roads and high production costs, including diesel and a significant drop in soybean market prices.
In contrast, Spain is seeing an exceptionally rapid corn harvest driven by stable weather and low humidity. In the province of León, the primary producer of corn in Spain, yields remain normal due to adequate irrigation. However, this stands in stark opposition to France, where the corn harvest is facing a historic decline. The French Ministry of Agriculture reports a 50% drop in production compared to last year, attributed to drought and summer heatwaves, with expected yields falling to 7.3 million tons.
