Weather patterns bring wind and temperature drops to Italy
Europe is experiencing a split weather pattern due to high pressure dominating the west and a low-pressure system moving between the Aegean Sea and Turkey. While northern Italy remains stable, central and southern regions, including Calabria, face variable weather with cooler temperatures and northern winds.
In Calabria, the Ionian coast is expected to experience strong Tramontana or Grecale winds. Forecasts for late September indicate a mix of sunny intervals and localized cloudiness, with potential brief showers in areas such as the Serre Vibonesi and Grecanica. Temperatures are expected to drop, with nighttime lows reaching approximately 10°C in the Valle del Crati.
On a broader scale, a deep Atlantic depression, potentially named Austin, is approaching Western Europe. This system could see central pressure drop below 950 hPa, which would be exceptionally low for September. While the storm may bring intense winds to the British Isles, a subtropical anticyclone is expected to protect much of Italy, limiting the impact to increased cloudiness and light, scattered precipitation.
