Weight loss comparison between water and sugar-free drinks

A study from the University of Liverpool, published in the British Journal of Nutrition, examined the impact of water versus sugar-free beverages on weight loss over a two-year period. The study involved 493 adults with overweight or obesity, divided into groups consuming at least 660 milliliters of either water or diet drinks daily. While the diet drink group saw an average weight loss of 4.8 kilograms compared to 3.7 kilograms in the water group, researchers noted the difference was not statistically significant.

Experts emphasize that weight loss in the study was attributed to overall lifestyle changes, including dietary advice and physical activity, rather than the beverages alone. Sugar-free drinks may serve as a useful tool for reducing calorie intake when replacing high-sugar sodas, but they do not directly burn fat.

Additionally, nutritionists suggest that lemon water can support hydration and weight management by acting as a healthier alternative to sweetened beverages. Lemon water provides vitamin C, which supports immune function and skin health, and can help reduce daily caloric intake by replacing sugary drinks.
