Weight management trends: Dietary habits and medical advancements

Recent discussions regarding weight management highlight both dietary choices and medical advancements. Regarding nutrition, experts note that bread does not inherently prevent weight loss; rather, weight change depends on the balance between caloric intake and energy expenditure. While white bread is refined and lower in fiber, whole grain options provide more vitamins, minerals, and fiber, which aids digestion.

In the medical field, the development of GLP-1 agonists, such as semaglutide and tirzepatide, has revolutionized obesity therapy. These medications, currently administered via subcutaneous injection, have shown the ability to reduce body mass by 15% to 20%. Prof. Dr. Davor Štimac, president of the Croatian Obesity Society, notes that while these drugs can reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke, they are not a substitute for a healthy lifestyle. There are also concerns regarding patients using these treatments without medical supervision.
