Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced that it will resume controlled spillage at the Weija Dam starting Wednesday, September 9, 2026. The decision comes as a precautionary measure to protect the dam's structural integrity following heavy, continuous rainfall in the Densu River catchment area.

Water levels at the dam have reached 45.2 feet, nearing the critical safety threshold of 46 feet. Consequently, GWL has issued evacuation orders for residents living downstream. Impacted settlements include Tetegu, Oblogo, Pambros Salt, Lower McCarthy Hill, Lower Weija, Bojo Beach, and Ada Kopey.

Emergency response agencies, including the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and local District Assemblies, have been directed to prepare for evacuation efforts. GWL stated that monitoring teams are continuously tracking weather conditions and water levels to ensure public safety.
