Wellovar geothermal park opens in Bjelovar
The Wellovar geothermal sports and recreation park has officially opened to the public in Bjelovar, Croatia. The complex, located in Veliki Korenov, features ten pools—five indoor and five outdoor—including a covered Olympic-sized pool certified for international competitions.
On its opening day, the facility saw high demand, with hundreds of tickets sold within the first few hours. The project, valued at 41.5 million euros, is the largest in the history of Bjelovar, with 17 million euros co-financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. The facility is designed to accommodate up to 1,500 people simultaneously and can host over 3,000 daily visitors.
All heating energy for the complex is sourced from renewable resources, specifically geothermal water and solar panels. While the geothermal well is still in a testing phase and currently being mixed with municipal water, the facility is moving toward full functionality. The complex also includes a restaurant, cafe bar, gym, and upcoming sauna facilities, serving as a hub for both local recreation and professional sports training.
