Wellovar geothermal complex opens in Bjelovar

The Wellovar geothermal sports and recreational complex has officially opened in Veliko Korenovo near Bjelovar, Croatia. The project, valued at over 50 million euros, was inaugurated during celebrations for Bjelovar’s 270th anniversary. The ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and Speaker of Parliament Gordan Jandroković.

The complex features ten pools—five indoor and five outdoor—including an Olympic-sized pool, as well as saunas, a gym, and a restaurant. It is designed to be energy self-sufficient, utilizing geothermal water at 83 degrees Celsius and a 1.3 megawatt solar power plant. While the indoor facilities are expected to be available to the public shortly, the outdoor pools are scheduled to open in May.

Financing for the project was provided through a combination of European funds and municipal loans. The facility is expected to attract approximately 250,000 visitors annually, marking a significant development for regional tourism. Entry prices for a three-hour session on weekdays are set at 7 euros, with full-day passes costing 16 euros on weekdays and 21 euros on weekends.
