Welsh Football and Language Initiatives Highlighted at National Eisteddfod

The National Eisteddfod (Eisteddfod y Garreg Las) in Llantwd, north Pembrokeshire, featured a dedicated stand by the Football Association of Wales. The booth promoted Welsh football with free giveaways, exclusive merchandise, and a preview of the 2026/27 season programme. Prominent football figures visited the stand, including Wales women’s national team coach Rhian Wilkinson, former Euro 2016 hero Joe Allen, and captain Angharad James, who were honoured for their contributions to the sport and the Welsh language.

In parallel, S4C announced a four‑part documentary series, “Gwalia Aleighcia,” following Aleighcia – a learner of Welsh – as she journeys across Wales in June 2026. The series explores Welsh history, language battles, and traditional songs, featuring performances by local artists and commentary from cultural officials. The programme aims to inspire new learners and showcase Wales’s cultural heritage during the Eisteddfod week.
