Welsh language and culture initiatives at 2026 Eisteddfod

In late July 2026, a series of community‑driven projects were launched around the National Eisteddfod (Eisteddfod y Garreg Las) in Pembrokeshire to showcase and promote Welsh language and cultural heritage.

On 22 July, the Gerddi Gleision garden programme installed floral planters in nine towns, each displaying a poet’s couplet in Welsh, and a televised gardening segment paired a Welsh broadcaster with BBC Gardeners’ World’s Adam Frost, highlighting horticultural heritage and encouraging youth participation.

A week later, on 29 July, the Football Association of Wales operated a stand at the Eisteddfod promoting Welsh football and language, featuring appearances by women’s national‑team coach Rhian Wilkinson and former international Joe Allen. Simultaneously, S4C announced a four‑part documentary, “Gwalia Aleighcia,” following a Welsh‑language learner on a cultural journey across Wales, further emphasizing language revitalisation.

Together, these events illustrate a coordinated effort to weave Welsh language and cultural promotion into diverse public spheres—gardening, sport, and media—during the 2026 Eisteddfod celebrations.
