Welsh garden projects celebrate language, culture and horticulture

A community-led initiative called Gerddi Gleision installed floral planters in nine Pembrokeshire towns ahead of the Eisteddfod y Garreg Las. Each planter features a local poet’s couplet, promoting Welsh language and identity. The project was funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, sourced flowers from Penrallt Garden Centre, soil from Abercych, and engaged local firms such as Norman Industries and Dail Pren, bolstering the regional economy.

At the same time, a Welsh television gardener partnered with BBC Gardeners’ World star Adam Frost during the Royal Welsh Show. Filmed for S4C’s Garddio a Mwy, the collaboration highlighted the revamped horticultural village, competition judging and advice sessions for growers and school‑children. Show director Adam Jones noted growth to 650 horticultural entrants this year, reflecting rising interest in gardening across Wales.
