Wendy’s announces free retro RPG WendyQuest on Steam

Fast-food chain Wendy’s is expanding its brand presence into the gaming industry with the announcement of WendyQuest: Legend of the Four Corner Stones. Developed by 81monkeys, the free-to-play retro-style role-playing game (RPG) features pixel art and turn-based combat inspired by classic titles like Final Fantasy.

In the game, the brand’s mascot, Wendy, acts as a hero tasked with saving the kingdom of Savoria from the evil Mech Corp and Dr. Mechborg. The narrative centers on stopping a curse known as ‘Mechtosis’ by collecting four magical stones. Players can recruit companions such as the French Fry Archer, the Spicy Chickeneer, and the Frosty Mage to navigate five food-themed regions.

The game includes several satirical nods to competitors, specifically McDonald’s, through enemies named ‘Big Mech,’ ‘Mech Chicken,’ and ‘Golden Archers.’ While a specific release date has not been announced, the game is currently available to wishlist on Steam. The developers have indicated that the game may offer food rewards for players, though specific details on how these will be redeemed have not been disclosed.
