Werner Herzog premieres ‘Bucking Fastard’ at Venice Film Festival

Director Werner Herzog premiered his new film, ‘Bucking Fastard’, at the Venice Film Festival. The film features real-life sisters Rooney and Kate Mara in their first onscreen collaboration, playing Jean and Joan Holbrooke.

Inspired by the true story of British twins Freda and Greta Chaplin, the film depicts two inseparable sisters who move and speak in unison. The plot follows their journey through legal and social challenges after they fall in love with the same man, played by Orlando Bloom.

The premiere received a standing ovation of over six minutes. Herzog, who is 83, described the project as a return to fiction after several years of documentaries, noting that the film explores themes of symbiosis, identity, and the boundary between individuals and society.
