Wesley Kincsei School regains license to reopen in Hungary

The Wesley Kincsei Primary and Secondary School, operated by the Hungarian Evangelical Brotherhood (MET) and led by Gábor Iványi, has received its operating license and approval from the Ministry of Education to reopen.

The school's closure in August 2024 by the Budapest Government Office was previously ruled unlawful by a court, a decision upheld for a second time in May 2026. The institution, which specializes in supporting children with special educational needs and behavioral challenges, had been forced to cease operations due to administrative decisions regarding its public assets.

Following the legal victories, MET completed necessary administrative tasks and renovations at its building on Ifjúmunkás Street. Due to the timing of the licensing process, the school will initially only be able to launch its first grade for the 2026/27 academic year, with plans for a gradual reconstruction of the full institution.
