West Africa reports landfill tragedy and border security tensions

Several significant events have occurred across West Africa. In Guinea, a massive landfill collapse in Conakry has resulted in at least 30 deaths as debris struck nearby residential areas. Emergency rescue operations are currently underway.

Security concerns have risen along the border between Burkina Faso and Côte d'Ivoire following reports of heavy gunfire and detonations near the Bodana border post. In response, Ivorian security forces have increased vigilance. Meanwhile, Mali's interim Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maïga traveled to Algiers to discuss strategic cooperation between Mali and Algeria.

On a regional level, ECOWAS and the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) signed an agreement in Abuja aimed at intensifying the fight against small arms proliferation and enhancing regional security surveillance. In Côte d'Ivoire, the political community is mourning the death of former minister and PDCI-RDA figure Alphonse Djédjé Mady at age 81.
