West African Communities Trained on Land Conflict Prevention and Governance

On 22 July 2026, local officials, customary and religious leaders in Koubri, Kadiogo Province, Burkina Faso attended a sensitisation session organised by the National Observatory for the Prevention and Management of Community Conflicts (ONAPREGECC). The workshop aimed to strengthen capacities for preventing and managing land disputes, highlighting financing challenges and the need for community ownership of the Observatory’s mandate.

From 21 to 25 July 2026, residents of the village of Krohon in Méagui, Côte d’Ivoire participated in a participatory simulation workshop on rural land governance. Conducted under the FOCA (Foncier‑cacao) project with support from ECAM, SIDI and the NGO ASAPSU, the event gathered cocoa producers, local authorities, women and youth to promote consensus‑based land security, certify rural land titles and reduce potential conflicts.

Both initiatives are part of broader efforts by national agencies and development partners to improve land‑rights protection, prevent disputes and support local development in West Africa.
