West African football associations launch new women's development strategies

The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has launched its first-ever Women’s Football Strategy, establishing a four-year framework to advance the sport from grassroots to the international level. SLFA President Babadi Kamara introduced the plan at the Freetown City Council Hall, marking a commitment to expanding opportunities for women and girls. The launch included a three-day capacity-building workshop for administrators, supported by FIFA representatives.

In Ghana, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has begun preparing a new Women’s Football Strategy for the 2027–2031 period. The GFA is currently reviewing its existing framework to assess performance and identify areas for improvement. This process includes stakeholder consultations and the setting of new targets to build on previous initiatives, such as the U15 Regional Girls Colts League and the expansion of the Women’s Premier League to 20 teams.
