West African governments ramp up rainy‑season infrastructure work

In Niger, the Minister of Equipment and Infrastructure, Colonel Major Salissou Mahaman Salissou, visited the Centre for Public Works Training and the National Laboratory for Public Works and Building on 2 July 2026. He called for a total mobilisation of staff to safeguard road users and maintain the national road network as the country prepares for heavy July rains.

In Senegal, the director‑general of the National Sanitation Office, Séni Diène, inspected drainage and water‑flow projects in Saint‑Louis and Touba. He reported progress of 70 %–75 % and pledged to achieve 100 % completion of curage work by mid‑July. “Nous avons constaté une bonne évolution des travaux de curage à Saint‑Louis. Le taux d’avancement est augmenté entre 70 % et 75 %. Nous avons bon espoir que, d’ici au 15 juillet, tous les travaux seront bouclés,” he said, stressing the urgency ahead of the August Grand Magal and the upcoming rainy season.
