West African police seize drugs and arrest dozens in Guinea and Benin

Guinean police carried out a large‑scale anti‑drug operation in the capital, Conakry, on 16‑17 July 2026. The raids in the Sonfonia and Matoto districts resulted in the arrest of 75 people, the seizure of 59 cannabis buds, three bags of Indian hemp, multiple motorcycles and weapons, and the confiscation of additional cannabis quantities and paraphernalia during the second raid.

In Benin, police raided a bar in the Pahou area of Ouidah on the same day, detaining 14 individuals. Officers uncovered about ten kilograms of Indian hemp, various psychotropic tablets and crystals, plus four motorcycles and several household items of uncertain origin. The suspects are to be presented before the prosecutor as investigations continue.

Both operations are part of a broader push by security forces in the region to dismantle local drug‑trafficking networks and curb consumption.
