West Bank faces worsening fuel shortage amid Israeli logistical constraints

The Palestinian Fuel Authority reports daily deliveries of about 3 million litres of fuel to the West Bank and says it is working to raise volumes and build a strategic reserve. Despite this, the territory endures an unprecedented fuel crisis, with long queues at stations, several stations closed, and public‑transport services at risk of halting.

Analysts cite a combination of factors: Israeli‑imposed logistical barriers that delay tanker arrivals, restrictions on transferring shekels to Israeli banks, a temporary halt to tanker movement after a gas‑leak incident near Na'alin, and a surge in consumer demand and hoarding. The Authority is prioritising diesel for public transport and expects to increase supplies in the coming week while addressing the shekel‑transfer bottleneck.

The shortage affects commuters, traders, students and medical patients, heightening economic pressure across the West Bank.
