West Bank humanitarian crisis deepens amid Israeli settlement attacks

Israeli settler violence in the West Bank has intensified, with attacks ranging from the killing of four Palestinians and two Israelis in the village of Til to widespread intimidation of residents from Nablus to Masafer Yatta. The Israeli government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz, has framed these incidents as terrorist attacks and called for large‑scale military operations to dismantle what it calls “terrorist infrastructure.” The Israeli army has signaled that intervening against settler violence is not among its duties and has warned of collective punishments for Palestinian communities that resist.

Simultaneously, strict Israeli movement restrictions are crippling medical services. Ambulance driver Yousef Diriya spent four hours stuck at the Awarta checkpoint while transporting dialysis patients, and a pregnant woman from Qaryut died after an ambulance was halted for half an hour, causing her newborn to perish before reaching the hospital. These delays highlight a broader humanitarian collapse in the occupied West Bank, where checkpoints, roadblocks, and security inspections turn short trips into days‑long journeys, endangering lives and undermining health care delivery.
