United Nations officials have warned that the West Bank is at a “breaking point” due to escalating Israeli military operations and settler violence. Ramiz Alakbarov, the UN deputy special coordinator for the Middle East peace process, stated that the current deterioration is the result of decades of unresolved conflict and illegal occupation.

In 2026 alone, Alakbarov reported that 76 Palestinians have been killed, including 18 children, and approximately 3,800 Palestinians—nearly half of whom are children—have been displaced due to demolitions, evictions, and settler attacks. The UN has documented over 1,430 settler-related incidents affecting roughly 260 Palestinian communities in the last eight months.

Hannan Sulieman, deputy executive director of UNICEF, highlighted the severe impact on minors, noting that 174 Palestinian children were killed in the West Bank between January 2024 and July 2026. She also reported that at least 355 Palestinian children are currently held in Israeli military detention, the highest number in eight years.

Recent field reports indicate continued raids and demolitions across various governorates, including Jenin, Bethlehem, Nablus, and Hebron. These operations have resulted in numerous arrests, including children and journalists, and the destruction of homes, commercial warehouses, and agricultural facilities.
