West Bank land confiscation and settlement expansion intensify

Land confiscation and settlement expansion in the West Bank are increasingly being used to reshape Palestinian geography, moving beyond traditional military and security justifications. According to Ramzy Odeh, Secretary-General of the anti-occupation campaign, the pace of confiscations has risen significantly in Areas B and C, primarily to facilitate the establishment and expansion of settlements.

These policies aim to sever geographic continuity between different parts of the West Bank. For instance, expansion in East Jerusalem toward Ma'ale Adumim and Khan al-Ahmar separates the north from the south, while expansion in the Ariel area isolates parts of the north from the center. This fragmentation complicates the possibility of a viable Palestinian state.

Beyond settlement growth, these actions are driving the displacement of Palestinian populations, particularly Bedouin communities reliant on livestock. Reports indicate that approximately 2,500 Bedouin Palestinians were displaced last year, with about 1,000 more displaced so far this year.
