West Bank: Israeli military raids and airborne deployments increase
Israeli military operations in the West Bank have intensified, characterized by frequent night raids and large-scale incursions. In Yatta, south of Hebron, Israeli forces conducted an airborne deployment using helicopters to land soldiers on residential rooftops during an invasion of the Fattouh area. While the military informed some families that these actions were part of training exercises, the operations have caused significant disruption.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reports that nearly 18 percent of the West Bank has been designated as closed military training zones. These areas, such as Firing Zone 918 in Masafer Yatta, have been linked to property confiscations, demolitions, and the displacement of Palestinian families.
Broader military escalations, including an operation codenamed Iron Wall, have resulted in the displacement of over 33,000 Palestinians from refugee camps in Jenin, Tulkarm, and Nur Shams. A recent UN report expressed concern that such systemic displacement could amount to a crime against humanity involving forcible transfer.
