West Bank: Israeli settler killed in shooting near Neve Tzuf
Violence escalated in the West Bank on the eve of Yom Kippur following two major incidents. A 30-year-old Israeli settler, Netanel Shakron, was fatally shot near the Neve Tzuf settlement while bathing at a spring. The attacker reportedly opened fire from a vehicle before fleeing on foot. Following a manhunt, Israeli security forces located and detained the wounded suspect at a hospital in Ramallah.
In a separate incident near Jenin, Israeli soldiers killed a Palestinian man who allegedly attempted to ram a military vehicle.
In response to the fatal shooting, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the military and Shin Bet to reinforce their presence in the West Bank, implement closures, and conduct offensive operations. He also ordered the immediate demolition of the attacker's home. National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir has called for the execution of the suspect, citing Israel's recently enacted death penalty law for terrorists.
