West Bengal and Kolkata under week-long heavy rain alert

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Alipur forecast heavy to very heavy rain across South and North Bengal for the next five to seven days, issuing yellow alerts for all districts and orange alerts for several districts including South 24 Parganas, Bangaon and Alipurduar. Cyclonic circulation over northern Bangladesh is funneling moisture into the region, prompting strong winds of 30‑40 km/h and intermittent thunderstorms.

Fishermen have been advised to stay out of the sea due to rough conditions. Temperatures in Kolkata are slightly above or below normal, with maximums around 28‑32 °C and high humidity (up to 98%). The alert covers districts such as Hooghly, Howrah, Murshidabad, Darjeeling, Kalimpong and others, with expectations of continued rain through early next week.
