West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari launches surprise inspections of police, fire services and school meal enrol

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, who also holds the Home portfolio, made unannounced visits to two Kolkata police stations—Watgunge and Ikbalpore—and later inspected the headquarters of the West Bengal Fire and Emergency Services Department. Accompanied by senior officials, he reviewed infrastructure, records and the deployment of women police personnel.

The state secretariat at Nabanna ordered surprise checks of government schools to verify midday‑meal beneficiary numbers. Inspections uncovered inflated enrolment figures, including a school in Patashpur‑1 block where the portal listed ten times more students than were present. Headmasters received show‑cause notices and disciplinary action was initiated, echoing earlier accusations of over‑reporting that had caused a financial discrepancy of over ₹100 crore during the previous administration.
