In early August 2026, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari ordered the Enforcement Branch and Kolkata Police to raid several markets across the state to monitor soaring vegetable prices. Officials inspected markets in Kolkata and surrounding districts, noting high prices for items such as papaya, brinjal, chillies and tomatoes, and warned that monitoring would continue to prevent price manipulation.

A few days later, Adhikari, who also holds the Home portfolio, conducted unannounced visits to two Kolkata police stations and the headquarters of the West Bengal Fire and Emergency Services Department. He reviewed infrastructure, records and the deployment of women police personnel. The state secretariat also ordered surprise checks of government schools to verify midday‑meal beneficiary numbers. Inspectors found inflated enrollment figures at a school in Patashpur‑1 block, leading to show‑cause notices and disciplinary action, echoing earlier accusations of over‑reporting that had caused a financial discrepancy of over ₹100 crore during the previous administration.
