West Bengal dengue cases exceed 4,500 this year

Dengue cases in West Bengal have exceeded 4,500 for the current calendar year, with more than 500 new infections reported in the last seven days. Murshidabad has emerged as the most severely affected district, accounting for 96 of the recent cases and 870 of the total infections this year. Kolkata follows as the second most affected area, with 402 total cases.

West Bengal Municipal Affairs and Urban Development Minister Agnimitra Paul stated that the government is focused on eradicating the disease and ensuring transparency in reporting. She emphasized that authorities have been directed to report all cases accurately following blood tests, rather than suppressing numbers. This follows the implementation of a standard operating procedure on September 2, which includes door-to-door monitoring and immediate testing for symptomatic individuals.
