West Bengal educational institutes face alleged attacks and communal targeting
Tensions have risen in West Bengal following reports of attacks on students and educational institutions. At a seminar held at Jadavpur University, Neha Bora, national president of the All India Students' Association (AISA), alleged that right-wing organizations, including the RSS and BJP, are targeting premier campuses to threaten democratic and secular values.
Bora specifically cited recent incidents at the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) and claimed that students at Jadavpur University were previously targeted by outsiders using stones and eggs. She accused these groups of violating constitutional rights to freedom of speech and liberty.
In a separate incident in Kolkata, three students from Aliah University's Department of Islamic Theology were allegedly assaulted while returning from their Taltala campus. The victims reported being intercepted by two men on a scooter who used communal slurs, including calling them ‘jihadi’, before physically attacking them with slaps and punches.
