West Bengal: Family alleges rape and blackmail in death of 13-year-old girl

A 13-year-old schoolgirl was found dead in her home in the Gaighata area of West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district on Friday night. Her family has alleged that the minor was a victim of rape and blackmail by a 32-year-old local man.

The family claims the girl had been in contact with the man for approximately one year. They allege that the man sexually assaulted her in his home and subsequently used objectionable photographs and videos to blackmail and intimidate her. The girl’s father stated that despite his warnings, the man continued to contact her and allegedly threatened her with acid attacks.

Police have recovered the body and sent it for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. An investigation is currently underway following a written complaint submitted at the Gaighata police station.
