Bengal region hit by heavy rain, landslide alerts and flight disruptions

Heavy rain is sweeping across the Bengal region of South Asia. The India Meteorological Department warned that West Bengal, including Kolkata, will continue to experience showers for the next several days, with thunderstorms, heavy rainfall and gusty winds of 30‑40 km/h. Temperatures are expected to reach 28‑32 °C. The weather prompted travel advisories, and flights departing from Kolkata may face delays or cancellations.

In neighbouring Bangladesh, the meteorological department issued high‑risk landslide alerts for five southeastern districts – Cox’s Bazar, Chittagong, Bandarban, Rangamati and Khagrachari – where heavy to very heavy rain could produce 100‑300 mm of precipitation. Strong breezes of 45‑60 km/h are also forecast nationwide, and authorities have urged residents, especially in low‑lying and hilly areas, to exercise caution.

Overall, the monsoon system is bringing widespread rain, strong winds and heightened flood and landslide risk across both India and Bangladesh.
