West Bengal introduces new transfer and retirement grants for state employees

The West Bengal government has announced a new financial assistance scheme for state government employees regarding transfers and retirement. Replacing the previous ‘transfer grant’ and ‘packing allowance’, the new ‘Composite Transfer and Packing Grant’ allows employees to receive up to ₹50,000 or up to 80% of their basic pay to cover relocation and packing costs.

To simplify the process, employees are no longer required to submit receipts or vouchers to claim the benefit. For transfers involving a distance of 30 kilometers or more, employees are eligible for the full grant, while those moving less than 30 kilometers will receive one-third of the amount. The policy also extends to employees relocating permanently after retirement.

The new regulations will take effect on June 1, 2026, for transfers and May 31, 2026, for retirement-related relocations.
