In Karnataka, the state government announced a 50 per cent increase in the hardship allowance for police personnel to address their financial needs. Chief Minister DK Shivakumar noted that this decision aligns the state with policies in neighboring regions.
In West Bengal, the state cabinet introduced the ‘Composite Transfer and Packing Grant’ to replace previous transfer and packing allowances. This new scheme allows employees to receive a lump-sum grant of up to ₹50,000 or 80 per cent of their basic pay, whichever is lower, without the need to submit expense receipts or vouchers. The grant applies to transfers of 30 kilometers or more, with those moving less than 30 kilometers receiving one-third of the amount. The policy also extends to employees relocating permanently following retirement. These regulations were scheduled to take effect in late May and June 2026.
